The traditional Australian day event has been moved to January 28 in West Australia , according to Mayor Brad Pettitt the reason for moving the date is because the previous date 26th January was not a day of celebration for everyone due to cultural sensitivities so they had to move it to a date that everyone can celebrate. He said the Aboriginal elders weren’t happy about the previous date as they complained it was not a day to celebrate.
There is mixed feelings about this as the former West Australian of the Year winner Robert Isaacs has strongly condemned the shifting of the Australian Day to a new date and has said he is not aware of any complaints from the Aboriginal elders or the community.
