It is quite sad today that a lot of children can not communicate in their mother’s tongue. Especially in Nigeria where the English language has been seen as the alpha and omega of all languages, this has made many parents to teach their child right from infancy the English language as oppose to their own language and as such you have adults who can not communicate fluently in their mother’s tongue.
Those who can not communicate in English most especially in Nigeria are seen as illiterate while those who can even go further in speaking the queens English with the western accent is celebrated, this has got to stop! There is nothing wrong in speaking English but you must also know your mother’s tongue. As we celebrate the mother language today, teach your child your language. Leave a comment below and share your mother’s language.
